During the recent G20 Summit, the President of the Brazil-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Victor Key, was present, closely following the activities that marked this important international event. The Chamber’s participation, represented by President Victor, reinforces the institution’s commitment to strengthening economic, commercial, and diplomatic ties between Brazil and Vietnam, as well as supporting strategic initiatives that impact global development.

One of the most significant moments was the signing of a joint declaration between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, elevating bilateral relations to the level of a Strategic Partnership. This milestone, celebrated in the context of the 35th anniversary of diplomacy between the two countries, highlights the growing collaboration in areas such as trade, environment, food security, and global governance.

During the meeting, the leaders set ambitious targets for bilateral economic growth, including increasing trade to USD 10 billion by 2025 and USD 15 billion by 2030. They also reinforced the commitment of Brazil and Vietnam to promote sustainable development and combat hunger through the recently launched Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.

In addition to commercial issues, the discussions addressed critical global topics such as climate change, a just energy transition, and bioenergy. Vietnam expressed support for Brazil’s candidacy for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, reinforcing the partnership in global governance. Both countries also aligned on hosting COP-30 in Belém in 2025, demonstrating their shared commitment to tackling the climate crisis and advancing renewable energy.

Another key highlight was the progress in negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and MERCOSUR, which promises to further strengthen regional trade ties and open new opportunities for companies and investors. President Victor Key’s presence at the G20 activities allowed him to assess how the Chamber can support its members in consolidating business and strategic partnerships between Brazil and Vietnam.

The Strategic Partnership between the two countries not only consolidates historical diplomatic relations but also opens new avenues for multilateral cooperation, strengthening the Global South and enhancing the role of Brazil and Vietnam on the international stage. The Chamber’s active participation at the G20 reaffirms its role as a facilitator of dialogue and opportunities, contributing to the sustainable growth and development of both nations.
